UFO TRAFFIC REPORT: MAY 20, 2011
Article By: Roger Marsh
Unusual orange lights were reported over three states, according to May 13, 2011, testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
An Arizona witness was walking dogs on a cloudless night at 10 p.m. on May 11, 2011, in MUFON Case # 29075, when a light was seen coming in from the west.
“The light glowed a dull, yellow orange glow, turned off, and an identical second light appeared,” the witness stated. “As it went off, a third orange light came on. The pattern seemed triangular, as if the lights were separate corners of a single object, and not a single light moving along. I had the impression of a large object quite a distance away (a mile or more), moving slowly, about 20 degrees above the horizon. I waited for the lights to blink on a second time, but there was nothing else. The whole sighting lasted only a few seconds.”
The lights were coming from the direction of a nearby airport, so the witness is not ruling out something manmade.
In Michigan on May 12, 2011, three rural witnesses report talking about UFOs outside at 4 a.m. when they noticed a “bright, orange object” in MUFON Case # 29079.
“As I point up towards the orb of orange light – at that point immediately – the object intensified to a brighter, sustained glow,” the reporting witness stated. “As soon as my two friends saw the object, I was already moving away from the tree to get a clearer view. The object was in the western sky at about a 45 degree angle. I was standing near Maple Island Log Homes, on Maple Island Road. Once in the clear, I could see the orb of light dim to almost invisible with the only thing I could see was a dark, orange glow with a darker center. Very faint still, it changed direction from heading towards us to traveling soutwest, within five seconds it was out of view.”
In South Carolina on May 12, 2011, witnesses standing on a balcony at the Admiral Inn in Myrtle Beach saw an orange light appear in the sky for a few seconds in MUFON Case # 29083.

A West Virginia witness is convinced that the long, cigar-shaped object seen “streaking” across the bright, sunny sky was not military.
“It was a very long-distance away, but I could still be able to tell what type of shape and color,” the witness stated.
The witness described the color of the object and how it moved.
“The color was a bright silver that was shiny as if it was illuminated in the sky. There were clouds in the area it was at, and as it was streaking across. It went into the one area of clouds, and never returned to the other side.”
The witness reports that the object moved in a pattern that was not military.
“The way it flew was a fast, streak across the sky type of pattern. I knew instantly that it was not something that the military uses, since we do have an air base here and you always see aircraft flyng, but this was not anything I have ever seen before especially with the color, shape, and flying pattern.”
The above quotes were edited for clarity. No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the MUFON report. The incident occurred on May 10, 2011. No images or video were included with the report.

An Illinois witness reports watching an “extremely bright, amber colored light” in the sky at 2:40 a.m. on May 13, 2011, in a triangle shape.
“I observed it for closed to 7 minutes when it started heading westbound,” the witness stated. “As it moved it seemed to dip down, then go back up a little higher. It kept moving when all of the sudden a plane flew by between the object and my stand point.”
The witness says the unknown craft then changed from an amber ball and “seemed to mimic the aircraft passing by.”
“The unknown craft then started heading my way. (Note: I have seen plenty planes in my life to know that the sudden change of direction for this craft wasn’t typical of a jet liner). Anyhow it headed my way and zoomed just about 1,000 feet just a few houses short of where I was and headed north/west.”
The witness has a five-minute video of the event, but could not upload the video with the MUFON report, which was filed on May 13, 2011. No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the report.
Another witness in Washington also reported an object that was changing shape on May 12, 2011, in MUFON Case # 29077.

Several Missouri witnesses traveling southbound on I-435 stopped to observe as many as 125 low-flying, orange objects that moved up from the tree line and traveled away at about the speed of a helicopter.
All of the objects moved in from the north low on the horizon and then moved south – each object splitting into five smaller objects – before moving into cloud cover.
“As they spread and slowly began to disappear into the clouds above (low ceiling), a larger and brighter orange object at a faster speed, about 1-2 degrees above the horizon, behind the tree line, and then as it started to ascend, split into five smaller orange objects, again radical in flight, without formation, and slowly ascended into the cloud cover,” the reporting witness stated. “This occurred about 20 times over a 25 minute span. They all came from the North (low on horizon) to South and then turning toward the East and then into cloud cover.”
The event occurred over a 25-minute period and stopped after the largest object was seen – also splitting into five smaller objects.
“At one time, I observed over 15 in the sky at one time. At approx 9:58 p.m., the largest ball at a faster speed flew, split into 5 smaller objects, they followed the same path as the previous objects, and then the event seemed to stop. There were other vehicles on the shoulder of the highway observing this event. I got one person’s name and phone, and the next day he related that he talked to another individual who also saw this phenomenon.”
The witness also observed a “jerky motion” to the objects.
No town name was mentioned in the MUFON report, which was filed on May 16, 2011. The event occurred on April 13, 2011.
Missouri MUFON reports that Chinese Lanterns have been ruled out in this case due to the observed speed of the objects. “A second witness is sending me photos from their cell phone,” Assistant State Director Margie Kay stated. “A third witness cannot be reached but was at the scene. I am obtaining a photograph of the orange orbs from one witness.” In addition to the above report, the following two cases occurred over the weekend in Missouri.
10:30 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011: Anonymous witness called me today: She saw a lighted craft just above the clouds on Saturday night at approximately 10:32 p.m. over Independence, MO, South of 39th Street and Lee’s Summit Road headed in a NW-SE direction. It was not defined and difficult to see – only the large bright circular white light was clearly visible.
4 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011: A very large Grey metallic saucer-shaped craft with a dome and one large horizontal long light and two smaller lights on the side was sighted in Lee’s Summit, MO, on Sunday morning at 4 a.m. Five witnesses saw this. One was a designated driver (he failed to put that in the report) and was not drinking. The others had been drinking at a bar earlier but he assures me that they were not drunk at the time of the sighting. He and his wife also report seeing Apache helicopters, fully armed, circling Lee’s Summit and Blue Springs for 7 days before this sighting. None were seen at the time of the sighting. Note: my secretary lives in Blue Springs and said she has heard the helicopters as well. Lee’s Summit Regional Airport is a small airport and not normally a place where military helicopters are sighted.
Missouri is a current UFO ALERT 5 rating, with a low number of UFO sightings nationally. Missouri had 6 UFO reports in April 2011 – while California had 46 sightings, the highest reporting state in the nation.
An Illinois witness watched a “translucent sphere” about the size of a beach ball float 40 feet overhead that seemed to be pausing over each rooftop as it moved along.
The witness looked into the sky with night vision equipment just above where his game birds pen is on the property after seeing that the animals had been disturbed. After observing the sphere, the witness looked again without the night vision equipment and could not see the object.
The witness described the object.
“You could almost see through the sphere and it glowed more on the outer edges of its outline,” the witness stated. “I quickly pulled the scope down and looked right above me to try to see it. It could not be seen with the naked eye at night. I reacquired it in the scope and continued to observe it floating directly over my neighbor’s home briefly pausing and then continuing on to the next neighbor’s roof top – again pausing. I lost sight of it within about 3 or 4 minutes. I made several attempts to reposition myself to locate it but could not.”
The movement of the animals first caused the witness to look in a particular direction.
“The thing I remember just before I saw the object was, I have a pen of game birds which roost at night. Just before I saw the object my birds became very active in the pen. It made me wonder if a critter or coyote might be near them. At that moment the sphere became visible to me over head as I was pointing the scope back near the pen to see what got them going.”
No town name was mentioned in the MUFON report, which was filed on May 15, 2011. The event occurred on May 4, 2011, near 1:15 a.m. The above quotes were edited for clarity.

Eleven Missouri witnesses in two separate reports describe a large saucer-shaped object on May 15, 2011, as they drove down Woods Chapel Road in Lee’s Summit.
In the first report, witnesses said the object was large and something they had “never seen.”
“The object was large and definitely an aircraft we had all never seen,” the reporting witness stated. “As I drove closer in the direction of the craft it seemed to stay at the same height yet either got farther and farther away or just got smaller and smaller. Three of us drew out what we saw and all came out with the same drawing of the ship.”
The witness notes one unusual item from the area that may or may not be related.
“For the last 7 days I have seen multiple Apache helicopters landing and flying around the airport. I have lived at my apartment for close to a year and have never seen anything other than single engine planes land there.”
In the second report, five witnesses watched the object until it moved west and out of sight.
“The driver noticed the UFO first and pointed it out to us,” the reporting witness stated. “It was staying neutral in the same spot directly in front of us. We only saw it for maybe a minute or two and then it got smaller and smaller really fast like it was moving away from us directly west.”
Lee’s Summit is a city in both Jackson and Cass counties, population 84,208. No images or videos were included with the MUFON reports, which were filed on May 15 and May 16, 2011. The above quotes were edited for clarity.

A California couple visiting Joshua Tree National Park reported that they observed a brightly lit, elongated object that hovered and then moved straight up and disappeared into a black cloud.
“On our way home to our hotel, but still in the park, my wife spotted a very bright glowing object sitting low in the clear blue sky,” the reporting witness stated. “The glow may have been intensified by the setting sun. Above the object was a large dark cloud.”
They followed the object’s path for about 5 to 10 minutes until it disappeared into a black cloud.
No images or videos were included with the MUFON report. The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on May 14, 2011.Joshua Tree National Park is in southeastern, CA. It is named for the Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia) forests native to the park. It covers a land area of 789,745 acres (319,598 ha), or 1,234 square miles – an area slightly larger than the state of Rhode Island.

A Massachusetts witness reports watching a “large craft with red and blue-ish lights hovering over a field on Pleasant Street” in Southampton and then being followed by one of several orbs that straddled the object.
The witness drove into Southampton along Route 10 and first noticed two orbs in the sky moving “in unison with each other”.
“On Route 10 where Pomery Meadow Road meets, I first noticed a pair of ‘orbs’ flying in the same direction (towards Westfield) in unison with each other, lost them over some trees, got to my brother/parents house, dropped him off,” the witness stated.
The witness then left Route 10, turning right onto Clark Street in Southampton, and then made a right turn onto East Street.
“Then I noticed a large craft with red and blue-ish lights hovering over a field on Pleasant Street. So I took that left. I was amazed. It was making a not too loud humming noise. I kept driving because I admit, I was kinda freaked out. This is my first ‘UFO’ sighting.”
But the encounter was not over. The witness then noticed that one of the smaller orbs seemed to be following.
“As I kept driving I saw the same ‘orbs’ as before, at least, I think they were the same ones. I slowed down to get a better look, as one of them seemed to be tailing me. Every time I looked out my driver side window, it was right beside me probably a couple hundred yards away. It stayed with my until I reached the center of Easthampton. I then lost it.”

An Illinois witness reports watching a “disc-shaped, semi-translucent object with a dark center” that had many smaller lights that looked like “insects under a streetlight.”
The witness stepped outside for a cigarette and was facing east.
“In the east/southeast sky I could see a disc-shaped object with a dark center moving southwest,” the witness stated. “It traveled above the clouds and my view of it was often obscured by clouds moving in the opposite direction. The object almost seemed translucent and reminded me of a jellyfish somewhat, but the outer rim seemed reddish or pinkish and the center was dark.”
The object also had many small lights.
“Other smaller lights (much smaller) were scattered around the disc. Some darted and away from the disc, but they all seemed to be moving in the same general direction (somewhere above Midway), sometimes up and down, sometimes in a random path. There were so many smaller lights that I thought I must be seeing things and rubbed my eyes. They reminded me of insects under a streetlight but on a much grander scale.”
The entire sighting lasted 10 minutes, until the object moved behind an apartment building.
No images or videos were included with the MUFON report, which was filed May 17, 2011. The incident occurred on May 12, 2011. No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the report.

An Alabama high school student driving home from a band concert reports being “extremely terrified” after watching one dozen “silent fireballs” low flying at the tree line and one that “actually touched the ground.”
The teenager’s father filed the report with MUFON.
“While driving home through a rural area, she stopped at a stop sign and glanced to her left,” the father stated. “She saw flying toward her about a dozen ‘fireball’ objects that were the size of helicopters. They were flying very slowly, but at a greater speed than a hover. She said they were flying very low, a little above tree line level. One actually touched the ground and went back up. She said she just sat there is disbelief, and she opened her window to get a better look. She said they were silent. They eventually flew off toward the southwest.”
While watching the objects, a truck moved into the intersection and she spoke with the driver.
“After the objects flew away, the truck turned next to her and the male driver asked her ‘did you see that?’ The female passenger stated that she was glad they were not the only ones that had witnessed the incident. My daughter wishes now she had gotten the person’s name driving the truck.”
No town name was mentioned in the public portion of the MUFON report, which was filed on May 18, 2011. The incident occurred on May 17, 2011. No images or videos were included with the report.

An Arizona witness reports watching an orange “fire-like circle” appear in the sky while three additional circles of light came out of it, and then all of the circles of light “enclosed back into” the original circle and “vanished from sight.”
The witness was outside talking on a cell phone when the first orange light was seen.
“It looked like a circular, bright, fireball object high up in the dark sky, I and thought it may be strange airplane lights I hadn’t seen before,” the witness stated.
Then a light emerged from this original light.
“At once, another identical circle began to ‘come out’ of it, and it moved in a direct line to the left (and slightly down) of the original circle, and stopped.”
Two more lights came out of the original light.
“Another one ‘came out’ of the original circle, and flew in a direct line to the right of it and stopped. Another emerged more slowly than the first two from the original circle, and also went to the right of the original circle and stopped right next to it.”
The multiple circles of light “lingered” for a moment, and then all of the lights moved back into the original light and everything disappeared.
“All four circles lingered in each of their spots for a few seconds, and then the circle to the left moved very fast back into the original circle, as if pulled by a magnet. The other two immediately followed, and as if all of them were enclosed back in the original circle, it appeared to fold and vanished from sight, like it had been sucked away into an invisible place, leaving no visible trace.”
No town name was mentioned in the MUFON report, which was filed on May 19, 2011. The event occurred on May 18, 2011. No images or videos were included with the report. The above quotes were edited for clarity.

Two recent Illinois UFO reports describe red lights in the sky that hovered while one witness was able to videotape the event.
In the first case, two Illinois witnesses first noticed a “non-moving sparkling light in the sky” that they were able to photograph and videotape. While they could only view one light with the naked eye, other lights turned up on the video footage.
“Him and another friend watched as more lights appeared flashing different colors and moving in different formations,” the reporting witness stated. “This was only happening in the view-screen of the camera. They said they could still only see the one with their naked eye. After watching this on the computer even more lights appear and disappear doing all sorts of flashing, color changing and maneuvering, but never actually leaving. They recorded for about 23 minutes until the memory card was full.”
No town name was mentioned in the MUFON report, which was filed on May 19, 2011. The event occurred on May 17, 2011.
In a second case, an Illinois Mom and son stopped at a local fishing creek on May 19, 2011, and watched a series of red lights in the sky.

A North Dakota truck driver moving along Highway 281 between Carrington and Jamestown slowed down and took a photograph of a lit-up “disc-shaped object” that was silent and slow moving.
“I didn’t see any blinking lights, or remember any sounds or anything like that,” the witness stated.

A Montana witness reports a 3 to 4-foot diameter “black sphere” heading north 40 to 50 feet off the ground and just under 200 yards off of Highway 191 south of Belgrade.
The object was moving along at between 20 and 30 mph when the witness first saw it.
“My first thought was that it was a balloon, but the wind that morning was out of the east and blowing real hard and this thing was not being buffeted by the wind whatsoever,” the witness stated. “It continued unaffected by the wind for a distance of about 200 yards, bobbled a couple of times and rapidly descended to a height of about 8-10 feet and just sat there. I watched for a bit and seeing no further movement went on my way.”
The witness refers to a Googled videotape where the object in the video looks like what was seen – except that the video is apparently computer generated. The video can be seen here.

And finally, an unusual amount of UFO activity in the Kansas City area in April and May, 2011, has prompted a serious investigation by the Missouri Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
MUFON Missouri Assistant State Director Margie Kay has received reports from multiple witnesses who saw UFOs, orange orbs, and an entity.
The following press release was issued by Missouri MUFON.
May 18, 2011 Kansas City, Missouri
A large number of calls were received at the MUFON office by Margie regarding orange orbs and a large silver UFO on the evening of May 14 and the early morning hours of May 15. The sightings occurred during a 9 1/2 hour period from 7 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday. Some of the reports were filed at mufon.com.
A 7-year-old was riding in a car with his mother on Highway 635 headed south in Kansas City North at 7 p.m. on May14. He told his mother that he saw a large, round orange colored UFO moving in the clouds. The mother is a UMKC University professor and a member of the Kansas City chapter of MUFON.
Orange balls of light were spotted East of I-435 southbound at Gregory Boulevard (Raytown) low in the tree line, going from north to south at 9:30 p.m. on May 14. Witnesses pulled over to the side of the highway to watch. The objects appeared to be shooting out of something at about 90 mph, then slowed to about 50 mph. All then rose into the clouds and disappeared. There were approximately 125 of these orbs appearing in a half-our period, according to a local insurance agent and a friend who witnessed the objects. Another witness, who was called by one of the men watching the scene from I-435, claims to have photos taken from his house.
A woman saw a lighted craft just above the clouds on Saturday night, May 14 at approximately 10:32 PM over Independence, MO, South of 39th Street and Lee’s Summit Rd headed in a NW-SE direction. It was not defined and difficult to see – only the large bright circular white light was clearly visible.
A very large Grey metallic saucer-shaped craft with a dome and one large horizontal long light and two smaller lights on the side was sighted in Lee’s Summit, MO at 4:00 AM Sunday morning, May 15. Seven witnesses reported a similar craft. One witness to the event also reports seeing Apache helicopters, fully armed, circling Lee’s Summit and Blue Springs for 7 days before this sighting. None were in the area at the time of the sighting.
