UFO Traffic Report
Article By ROGER MARSH
A strong spike in triangle-shaped UFOs hit the U.S. at the start of the New Year with a sharp report increase nationally at the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
While the larger number of reports continues into April 2011, we also see that the crafts seem to be moving closer to ground level.
The sighting increase was covered in: Triangle UFO cases increasing nationally.
The most recent triangle case is an April 7, 2011, report from California where the witness says a UFO was sighted three days in a row, with the most recent triangle sighting on April 6, in MUFON Case # 28577.
The April 4 sighting included a “very bright, star-like object” hovering at about 1,000 feet. The object was described as “circular with rotating white, blue, green and red lights around the sides of it.” This object was spotted west of the quarry in Cupertino and flew into the Santa Cruz Mountains. Cupertino is an affluent suburb in Santa Clara County, population 58,302, and is worldwide headquarters for Apple, Inc.
The event repeated itself on April 5 and lasted about 10 minutes.
As you read the triangle UFO stories being filed across the country, you will also see that many witnesses are reporting that these crafts are coming very close to ground level.
The increase in low flying triangles was covered in: Trading stories: Triangle UFOs moving closer to ground
As I report from the MUFON witness report files daily, it’s interesting to cross reference cases with Peter Davenport’s extensive collection from across the country at the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC). While some folks file with both MUFON and NUFORC, most only report at one site or the other. So if you’re on the trail of where the triangle reports are, these are two unique databases that can provide some very interesting reading.
We’ve often wondered why a sighting is reported in one remote area, but cannot be tracked – not like if you were tracking an airline flight between New York and LA – where you might have “sightings” of the jet along the way. It’s clear from the data that triangle UFOs are most often reported after dark. California seems to be having the largest increase in sightings. And from casual data, it also appears that reports of triangle crafts close to ground level – under 1,000 feet – are on the rise.
Most ufologists are way past the “are they real?” cycle of the 20th century – the “tire kicking” mode – and have moved onto the “what are they doing here?” question – one that puzzles me most. I have moved into the camp that believes “they” have always been here, and that they seem to move in and out of just about every region in the country with an ease that suggests the technology involves inter-dimensional travel. Here one second, and gone the next. But as MUFON International Director Clifford Clift shared with me recently, “We just don’t know what’s on the other side.”
But not all UFO reports are of the triangle variety – witnesses are reporting the traditional disc shape, but there are many other shapes, including: sphere, cigar, and rectangle and many simply reported as bright lights.
A Carmel, IN, witness reports watching a silent, rectangular-shaped object approximately 120-feet long gliding southeast about 11:30 p.m. on April 6, 2011. More on this sighting here: Rectangular UFO glides silently over Carmel, Indiana.
As the new reports come in, it spurs other witnesses across the country to report older UFO encounters.
A Michigan witness recalls a 2005 UFO sighting where six people in Troy watched a silent triangle object fly directly overhead just above a telephone pole height, according to April 9, 2011, testimony from MUFON.
“It was traveling so slowly that If one of us had chased after it we would have been able to keep up,” the witness stated. “It was not a large craft. It was a triangular object that gave off absolutely no sound or reflection of the lights below. It almost completely blended into the night sky in a way that seemed like it was mimicking it.”
The group lost sight of the object after it traveled only 100 yards.
Two reports of cigar-shaped UFOs were recently reported from Texas – cases covered in this story:
Second cigar-shaped UFO report over Texas skies.
A Cypress, TX, witness reports a white or silver “thin object” hovering 1,000 feet over US 290 that quickly disappeared from view on April 5, 2011.
This is the second cigar-shaped report from Texas in a two-day period. We recently covered a similar shape UFO in the story: Illuminated cigar UFO reported over Texas – a sighting that occurred one day later, on April 6, 2011. In the first case, the witness was able to provide an image of the object, although no town name was mentioned in the public portion of the MUFON report.
Sometimes ufologists get lucky and the object that witnesses are reporting is photographed or videotaped. One recent case was Video: Kentucky witness reports red object.
A Kentucky witness reports a bright red, ball-shaped object that “seemed to flicker” as it crossed the horizon at 9 p.m. on April 7. The witness was able to capture about 8 seconds of video.
A recent report from Georgia described a portal: UFO disappeared ‘like a portal closing’.
A Varnell, GA, witness reports an “incredibly bright, shiny, white oval or square-shaped object” the size of a fingernail at arm’s length that narrowed to a vertical slit for a few seconds and then just disappeared “like a portal closing” at 11:30 a.m. on April 7, 2011.
Another low triangle report from the New England area: Triangle UFO under 1,250 feet over Connecticut
A Connecticut witness reports a triangle-shaped object flying at or under 1,250 feet “making no noise whatsoever” at dusk on April 5, 2011.
The witness described the silent object.
“Anyway, it looked sort of triangular in shape with three lights on it,” the witness stated. “Two were white and one was green. Hard to judge its size but I would estimate it was about 60×80 yards. I saw it fly behind two symmetrical buildings, so my view was obscured for a few seconds, then it passed by the two buildings. I looked away for a few seconds, then saw it fly by the buildings in the same area and direction I had seen it fly not two seconds ago.”
A recent Texas UFO report indicates the object was under 2,000 feet: ‘Huge’ triangle UFO reported low in Texas.
A Texas witness who lives in a rural area reports observing a “huge” triangle-shaped object under 2,000 feet that produced a loud, hissing noise as it moved overhead at 1:30 a.m. on April 4, 2011.
The events began when the witness woke and decided to take the dog outside and saw “an object to the east with multiple color lights coming towards me, at a very low altitude.”
In Nevada, the triangle was under 800 feet: Nevada family reports triangle under 800 feet.
A Nevada family reports watching a triangle-shaped object under 800 feet while driving away from Las Vegas at about 8 p.m. on April 3, 2011. The witness was driving with his parents and two siblings in the car when they saw the hovering object.
Another triangle UFO at 800 feet – this one in the Keystone State: Pennsylvania witness reports triangle UFO
An Airville, PA, witness reports a two-minute encounter with a triangle UFO under 800 feet with four white lights on April 5, 2011.
“I turned to the left and saw four very large, bright white lights,” the witness stated. “It was rectangular shape (long straight across) and it looked like the four lights lined up next to each other (with a little space in between) as if it was one large object.”
Airville is an unincorporated community in York County, southeastern, PA, at the intersection of Pennsylvania State Routes 74 and 425. The witness tried to take a picture, but the camera acted as though the batteries were low, although the camera operated fine after the event.
While many witnesses say the UFO event was one of the most interesting events of their life, some react differently: Texas witness ‘frightened’ by silent UFO.
A Texas witness became frightened on April 4, 2011, after observing a silent, triangle-shaped object just 25 feet off of the ground.
The witness described the craft as it moved over a neighbor’s yard.
“I was letting my dog out in the yard and saw a triangular object moving very slowly to the northwest over my neighbor’s yard,” the witness stated. “I was looking at mostly the underside of it and there were 3 white lights and 1 red light on the underside. The lights were what drew my attention to it.”
The slow moving object was silent and only 25 feet off of the ground.
Other UFO cases involve witnesses actually seeing an alien being or experiencing missing time:
Retired Missouri officer reports missing time after alien encounter.
A retired Missouri police officer reports that a 4-foot-tall humanoid creature was in his backyard while a 50-foot-wide dull, black triangle-shaped object hovered above at 3:15 a.m. on April 5, 2011.
The witness cannot account for about 90 minutes of time during the incident.
UFO cases seem to pop up at random around the country, although some states seem to stand out statistically each month. Follow along with where the UFO hot spots are with the National UFO Alert Rating – which is updated on the first of each month.
See where your state ranks in UFO standings. California and Texas seem to get the most number of sightings nationally. But some states – like West Virginia – seem to get very few UFO sightings: Are UFOs avoiding West Virginia?
Scanning the national UFO reports on a daily basis, you realize the intensity of sightings coming from states like California and Texas – as they tend to be the leading report generators, according to statistics from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
But UFOs are a finicky lot. When we have those low fly-bys, especially of the triangle variety, they can be well scattered around the country. In a recent story - Triangle UFO cases increasing nationally - we see where important sightings have been lately.
On the west coast – California and Nevada. From the Midwest – Iowa. From the lower states – Texas. From the eastern states – Indiana and Pennsylvania. From the New England states – Massachusetts. Very scattered. Always taking the witness by surprise, and in most of these cases – the object was rather low to the ground.
But West Virginia?
Since 2011 rang in, MUFON has taken in only four UFO reports compared to California as the lead state in UFO reports – turning out 159 during the same time period.
